It is the first commercial airline in Asia and the oldest of those currently in operation, with a long and distinguished history spanning over sixty years. Out of its hubs at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila and Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Cebu City, Philippine Airlines serves eighteen destinations in the Philippines and twenty-six destinations in Southeast Asia, East Asia, Australia, Canada and the United States.
2. Air Canada
Air Canada is Canada's largest airline and flag carrier. The airline, founded in 1936, provides scheduled and charter air transportation for passengers and cargo to 160 destinations worldwide. Its largest hub is Toronto Pearson International Airport in Ontario. Air Canada is the world's 8th largest passenger airline by fleet size.
3. Air France
Air France is based in Paris, France, is one of the world's largest airlines. It operates worldwide scheduled passenger and cargo services to 185 destinations in 83 countries. The airline's global hub is at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, with Paris Orly Airport, Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport, and Nice Côte d'Azur Airport serving as secondary hubs. Air France's corporate headquarters, previously in central Paris, are located at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle, north of Paris.

Air Macau Company Limited is an airline based in Macau. It is the flag carrier of Macau, operating services to 12 destinations in mainland China, as well as regional international services. Its main base is Macau International Airport

British Airways is the national airline and flag carrier of the United Kingdom and one of the largest airlines in Europe. Its main hubs are London Heathrow and London Gatwick. British Airways is a founding member of the Oneworld airline alliance.

Cathay Pacific Airways is the flag carrier of Hong Kong. Based at Hong Kong International Airport, the airline's operations include scheduled passenger and cargo services to 114 destinations worldwide.Cathay Pacific is one of only six airlines worldwide to carry a five-star rating from Skytrax.
8. China Airlines
The airline, based at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and with headquarters in Taipei, currently flies to destinations in Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania. The airline started to operate regularly scheduled flights between Taiwan and mainland China on July, 2008. Most flights serving this market are thus concentrated at Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, and Hong Kong.
9. Continental Air
Continental Air is a United States certificated air carrier. Based in Houston, Texas, it is the fourth-largest airline in the US based on revenue passenger miles. Continental operates flights to destinations throughout the U.S., Canada, Latin America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific regions. It has more than 6,000 daily departures, serving over 151 domestic and 190 international destinations.
10. Egypt Airlines
Egypt Air the flag carrier airline of the Arab Republic of Egypt and a member of Star Alliance. The airline operates through its main hub at Cairo International Airport. It is wholly owned by the Egyptian government, with scheduled passenger and freighter services to more than 70 destinations in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the Far East, the USA, and Canada, as well as running an extensive domestic operations.
11. Emirates Airlines
Emirates Airlines is a subsidiary of The Emirates Group based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). In 2007 the airline was the eighth-largest airline in the world in terms of international passengers carried,and fifth-largest in the world in terms of scheduled international passenger-kilometres flown. It is also the ninth-largest in terms of scheduled freight tonne-kilometres flown (eighth in scheduled international freight tonne-kilometres flown).The airline operates over 3,710 passenger flights per week, to over 100 destinations in 62 countries. Cargo activities are undertaken by the Emirates Group's Emirates SkyCargo division. Its main base is Dubai International Airport.

EVA Airways Corporation is a Taiwanese airline based at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport near Taipei, Taiwan, operating passenger and dedicated cargo services to over 40 international destinations in Asia, Australia, Europe and North America.EVA Air is largely privately owned and flies a fully international route network.It is the second largest Taiwanese airline, next in size to its main rival, China Airlines.EVA Air is headquartered in Taoyuan, Taiwan.
13. Gulf Airlines
Gulf Air is the flag carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The airline operates scheduled services to over 40 destinations in Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East and Far East. Its main base is Bahrain International Airport. The airline is not part of an airline alliance but is part of the oneworld global explorer fare. It has extensive codeshare services with other airlines and special partnerships with Jet Airways and Oman Air's Frequent Flyer Programs.
14. Japan Air
Japan Airlines Corporation is the national airline and flag carrier of Japan.It is one of the largest airline operators in Asia, and is a member of the Oneworld global airline alliance.Based at Narita International Airport (for international flights) and Tokyo International Airport (for domestic flights), Japan Airlines operates scheduled and non-scheduled international and domestic services.to 125 destinations worldwide. The airline's corporate headquarters are located in Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (Dutch: Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij, literally Royal Aviation Company; usual English translation: Royal Dutch Airlines) is the national airline of the Netherlands and is part of Air France-KLM. KLM's headquarters is in Amstelveen, the Netherlands, near its hub Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. KLM operates domestic and worldwide scheduled passenger and cargo services to more than 90 destinations. Its main base is Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. KLM is the oldest airline in the world still operating under its original name.
16. Korean Airlines
Korean Air Lines Co., Ltd., operating as Korean Air, is the national and largest airline of South Korea; its global headquarters are located in Seoul in Korea. Its international passenger division and related subsidiary cargo division together serve 130 cities in 45 countries, while its domestic division serves 20 destinations. It is among the top 20 airlines in the world airlines in terms of passengers carried. Incheon International Airport serves as Korean Air's international hub. Korean Air also maintains a satellite headquarters campus at Incheon International Airport, located 30 minutes away from South Korea's capital, Seoul.

Lufthansa Airlines is one of the largest airlines in Europe in terms of overall passengers carried, and the flag carrier of Germany. The name of the company is derived from Luft (the German word for "air"), and Hansa (after Hanseatic League, the powerful medieval trading group).
The airline is the world's fifth largest airline in terms of overall passengers carried, operating services to 209 destinations in 81 countries. Together with its partners Lufthansa services around 410 destinations. It has the third-largest passenger airline fleet in the world, when combined with Lufthansa CityLine, Air Dolomiti, Eurowings, Germanwings, Augsburg Airways, Contact Air, and SWISS, operating 531 aircraft.

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is the flag carrier of Malaysia. Malaysia Airlines operates flights from its home base, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, and its secondary hub in Kota Kinabalu. Despite a financial restructuring exercise in 2006, Malaysia Airlines maintains a strong presence in Southeast Asia, East Asia, South Asia, Middle East and on the Kangaroo Route between Europe and Australasia. Malaysia Airlines also operates transatlantic flights from Kuala Lumpur to Newark, via Stockholm, and transpacific flights from Kuala Lumpur to Los Angeles, via Taipei. In 1997, the airline flew the world's longest non-commercial, non-stop flight from Boeing Field in Seattle to Kuala Lumpur, flying eastward passing the European and African continents and breaking the Great Circle Distance Without Landing record for an airliner on a Boeing 777-200ER longer than the record held by the Boeing 777-200LR.
20. Northwest Airlines
Northwest Airlines, Inc. (often abbreviated NWA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, Inc., is a major United States airline headquartered in Eagan, Minnesota, near Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in the United States. Northwest has three major hubs in the United States: Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, and Memphis International Airport. Northwest also operates flights from a hub in Asia at Narita International Airport near Tokyo and also operates transatlantic flights in cooperation with partner KLM from Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. Additionally, it maintains focus city operations at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
21. Pakistan International Airline
Pakistan International Airlines Corporation, more commonly known as Pakistan International Airlines or PIA, is the flag carrier airline of Pakistan, based in Karachi. It is the 31st largest airline in Asia, operating scheduled services to 35 destinations throughout Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America, as well as a domestic network linking 23 destinations. Its main bases are Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, the Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore and the Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad/Rawalpindi. The airline's secondary bases include Peshawar International Airport, Faisalabad International Airport, Quetta International Airport and Multan International Airport, from which it connects the metropolitan cities with the main bases, the Middle East and the Far East. The airline is owned by the Government of Pakistan (87%) and other shareholders (13%). It employed 18,043 people as of May 2008.
22. Qantas Airways
Qantas Airways Limited is the national airline of Australia. The name was originally "QANTAS", an acronym for "Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services". Nicknamed "The Flying Kangaroo", the airline is based in Sydney, with its main hub at Sydney Airport. It is Australia's largest airline and is the world's second oldest continuously operating airline (behind KLM) and the oldest in the English speaking world. Qantas is headquartered in the Qantas Centre in the Mascot suburb of the City of Botany Bay, Sydney, New South Wales.
In 2008, Qantas was voted the third best airline in the world by research consultancy firm Skytrax, up from fifth-place position in 2007 but a drop from the second-place position it held in 2005 and 2006.
23. Qatar Airways
Qatar Airways Company Q.C.S.C. is the flag carrier airline of Qatar, based in Doha. It operates a hub and spoke network, linking over 80 international destinations. It is among the only six airlines awarded 5-star rating by Skytrax along with Kingfisher Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Asiana Airlines, Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines.
24. Royal Brunei Airline
Royal Brunei Airlines Sdn Bhd, or RBA, is the flag carrier airline of the Sultanate of Brunei. It is wholly owned by the Government of Brunei. Its home base is the Brunei International Airport in Berakas, just to the north of the capital of Brunei, Bandar Seri Begawan.
The airlines has a code share agreement with Malaysia Airlines (Kuala Lumpur - Brunei), BMI (London to 6 British cities), Dragonair (Hong Kong - Brunei), Philippine Airlines (Manila - Brunei), and Thai (Bangkok - Brunei). Royal Brunei operates on all these routes with the exception of the domestic British flights which are operated by BMI. Some of the codeshare flights to destinations in Malaysia are also operated by Malaysia Airlines in addition to services operated by Royal Brunei.
25. Saudi Arabian Airlines
Saudi Arabian Airlines is the national airline of Saudi Arabia, based in Jeddah. It operates domestic and international scheduled flights to over 70 destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. Domestic and international charter flights are operated, mostly during Ramadan and the Hajj season. The airline's main operational base is at Jeddah-King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED). Other major hubs are Riyadh-King Khalid International Airport (RUH), and Dammam-King Fahd International Airport (DMM). The new Dammam airport was opened for commercial use on 28 November 1999. Dhahran International Airport in use until then, has reverted back to being used as a military base. Saudi Arabian Airlines is a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization. The airline used to be the largest carrier in the region, but because of the growth of other airports and airlines has become the second largest in 2006, behind Emirates Airline.
26. Singaporean Airlines
Singapore Airlines Limited (SIA) is the national airline of Singapore. Singapore Airlines operates a hub at Singapore Changi Airport and has a strong presence in the Southeast Asia, East Asia, South Asia, and "Kangaroo Route" markets. The company also operates trans-Pacific flights, including two of the world's longest non-stop commercial flights from Singapore to Newark, New Jersey and Los Angeles, California on the Airbus A340-500.
27. Swiss Airlines
Swissair (Swiss Air Transport Company Limited) was the former national airline of Switzerland. It was formed of a merger between Balair and Ad Astra Aero (To the Stars), in 1931. For most of its 71 years, Swissair was one of the major international airlines and known as the "Flying Bank" due to the financial stability of the airline, causing it be regarded as a Swiss national symbol and icon.
Nearly 30 percent of Swissair stock was owned by the Swiss government, and at the demise of the airline, Swissair belonged to the holding company SAirGroup, the regional airline Crossair, and the charter company Balair. Its major hubs until the early 1990s were at Zürich International Airport and Geneva Cointrin International Airport. Its successor, Swiss International Air Lines, is using the old Crossair sign LX and the ICAO code SWR.

Thai Airways International PCL’s rise from regional airline to a world-recognized company with global links is a tribute to the far-sighted vision of thier founders. It is a fascinating saga of local initiative and strategic partnerships that enabled them to grow quickly, yet comprehensively in an ascent best compared to the flight path thier aircraft on take-off.
On May 14, 1997, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited and four other world leading airlines, namely Lufthansa German Airlines, United Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines System, and Air Canada, officially announced the formation of "Star Alliance", an intergrated worlwide air transport network. On October 26, 1997, Varig Brazillian Airlines joined the Star Alliance network as its newest member. Partnership between the six carriers was significant of forming the strongest airline alliance in the history of commercial aviation with the most extensive network covering major destinations over six continents.

On 20th October 2002, Vietnam Airlines introduced the new logo of the Golden Lotus and corporate identity that symbolized its dramatic progress towards becoming a world-class airline. The launch represented a complete repositioning and brand strategy of Vietnam Airlines, coupled with significant improvements in its infrastructure, operations and fleet.
The delivery of its first own “state-of-the-art” B777 in 2003 also marked a true revolution in the airline’s fleet modernization. Three years later, Vietnam Airlines became one of the most modern fleets in the region.
For 15 years of development with an average annual growth rate of over 10 percent (except 1997 when the Asian financial crisis broke out), the national flag carrier has marked an obvious advance to become a major competitor in the Asian aviation market, owning a modern fleet of Airbus and Boeing planes flown by well trained professionals. Beginning with non-regular services between two domestic destinations, today Vietnam Airlines’ network extends to 19 cities throughout the country and 42 international destinations in the USA, Europe, Australia and Asia (including code-share services).
