Club 9, is set to hold its 3rd saturday open handicap billiard tournament this coming weekend , January 31st, with the registration fee only P150 it gives the local players a chance to enhance their billiard skills on the "Black Knight" tournament standard tables, supplied by Puyat Sports, which are covered with Simonis tournament 920 cloth, which is amazingly quick, slightly different to the chalk covered patch work cloth, found on most of the tables in Cebu, and to complete the tournament conditions in this fabulous new venue, Aramith billiard balls! all this and the comfort of full air conditioning!!
The handicap works out like this, a class "A" player has to pot the 9 ball to win in all matches, if he plays a class "B" opponent the "B" player has the handicap advantage of potting either the 7 or 9 ball to win a rack or match, if the "A" player meet a class "C" player, the "C" player has a great advantage with the handicap, needing to pot the 6, 7, or 9 balls to win, and the final combination is when a class "B" player meets a "C" player the "C" player need only to pot the 7 or 9 ball to win the rack or match.
All matches are a race to 7, with the prize money dependant on the number of entries, Club 9 also add to the excitement, with owner Ms Marie Ann Gonzaga, presenting a trophy to the winner! So far the numbers have increased over the last two weekends, even with major road works on the Basak highway, the truly dedicated pinoy billiard player has found a way to register.
Registration is from 2.30 pm, with the draw and tournament due to start at 4pm.
Watch this space for further announcements from Club 9, regarding the international tournaments when world famous billiard players will be in attendance!!!
And finally anyone who can answer the following question, on arrival at Club9 will be given a free San Miguel beer .....
What is the nickname of Efren Reyes .... a simple one to start !!!!!! see you at the bar!!!!

THERE is a new pool hall in town and it promises to be the new place to be for pool aficionados.
The Club 9 Billiard Hall in Basak, Lapu-Lapu opened with a bang Jan 10th, with Efren Reyes and Francisco Bustamante gracing the affair.
Reyes and Bustamante, who are good friends of owner Clive Cox, flew to Cebu just to attend the grand opening of the newest billiard pub, which offers seven tournament standard billiard tables.
The two were set to play an exhibition game that night, and were also poised to give away their signed cue sticks. One cue stick was also set to be auctioned to the highest corporate bidder, with the proceeds going to Bantay Bata.
The pub's owner, Cox, who is also a producer for Matchroom Sport, has already mapped out the activities he will be holding in his billiards pub, including tournaments, lessons and visits from billiards stars.
Cox has already slated three tournaments for this year, a mixed couple's tournament in February, a tournament for hotel employees in March and the Billiard League in April.
The League will be participated by some of the biggest names in the sport like Reyes and Bustamante.
The British producer, who also does freelance work for ESPN and Solar Sports, will also be hosting visits from international and Filipino cue masters and also plans to host an international tournament.
"I could bring in Daryl Peach, Rodney Morris and Steve Davis to visit here. Every once or twice a month there will be somebody known who will visit Club 9," Cox told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview during the club's soft opening early that week.
However, the main focus of Cox is to hone the skills of local young billiards players.
"We are planning to teach children the basics of billiards for free every Sundays for four hours as soon as we're established. Somewhere out there, there's another Efren (Reyes). We could discover him by 14 years old and maybe by 16 years old he could be a world champion," said Cox. (EKA)
